National Kidney Month – The KEEP Healthy Program
The National Kidney Foundation has a new program called KEEP Healthy, which provides kidney health check-ups to individuals in the community.
The KEEP Healthy program is a community-based initiative that provides free kidney health check-ups at community events. This program was created by the National Kidney Foundation in an effort to reduce kidney disease by educating the community about the importance of kidney health, and kidney disease, including the risk factors for kidney disease, and tips on reducing the risk of developing kidney disease.
The KEEP Healthy Check-ups Events are held throughout the year at different locations and community events. Individuals that participate in the Keep Healthy Check-up are provided with information about kidney health and kidney disease, and a kidney health screening to assess their risk for kidney disease. Those determined to be at-risk are given a basic diagnostic test (a urine test for albumin) and have the opportunity to speak with a healthcare provider.
What to expect at a KEEP Healthy Check-up?
• Risk Survey – Kidney Disease
• Body Mass Index (BMI): Height and Weight Measurements
• Blood pressure check
• ACR urine test for albumin (a type of protein) – For individuals at risk only!
• Free educational materials
• Opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional
